Dixon's Bank

Client: George Wimpey North
Artist: Andrew Burton Writer: Andy Croft

Sculptor Andrew Burton and writer Andy Croft have been commissioned to produce a text and sculpture based commission for a new housing development. Their proposal is to incorporate texts into 3 structures which are created as road signs to the main entrance and exit to the estate.

The text takes the form of three rhyming riddles about history and memory. Each relates to the three historical settlements on the site - Iron Age, Romano-Britain and twenty-first century. Each sign also carries an image that relates to the historical period. To complete the commission a life-size dog stands close to one of the signs, to indicate the domestic links between the three ages.
