Barratt Homes commissioned ARTS UK to delivery three public art projects as part of % for Art schemes on several of their new housing estates
Artist: Debbie Covell
Saltburn artist Debbie Covell has designed and made a mosaic for a Barratt Housing estate in Acklam, Middlesbrough. The mosaic is made up of a range of coloured ceramic tiles and the natural environment surrounding the site; willow trees, stream, sky, berries and plants influenced the main colours. The overall abstract and fluid, rhythmic forms are developed from similar qualities seen in the graffiti of a nearby underpass.
These initial starting points were developed in a more natural range
of colours which reflected the surrounding nature. This included a variety
of shades of blue which represented the transitory nature of the sky.
Artist: Rupert Clamp Date: February 2005
Rupert Clamp worked with residents of New Marske, Redcar and Cleveland to research and produce a number of locally based anecdotal and historical facts and stories. The texts were then etched into 11 brass plaques and installed in locations around the village. Each plaque is located near to where its story or history relates.
The plaques are accompanied by a cast bronze relief map placed near to the central shopping area of the village.
